For those who want to get started

How to start attending Aikido classes?

When choosing where to attend Aikido classes, be sure to visit the gym and participate in a trial training session or observe it. This will allow you to meet the instructor, ask any questions you may have, and see how the students behave and interact in the hall. The atmosphere in the hall, the instructor’s personality, and the training methodology are extremely important factors when choosing an Aikido club. Aikido is not a short-term hobby, so it would be better if you took the time and effort to assess where you would like to go at least twice a week for the next three years, or perhaps even more often.

Where do beginner classes take place?

Adult beginner groups meet at Studentų g. 45 (LEU main Aikido hall), Olandų g. 16 (Vilnius College of Technology and Design), and Šeimyniškių g. 21B.
Beginner children and youth meet at all Aikido school “Aidas” halls.
You can view the schedules and class times here.

How do I sign up or register my child?

You can call the general information line at 861618218 or the specific instructor who leads classes at the hall you are interested in. You can find the phone numbers here. You can also write to us at [email protected].

What clothing is required?

For the trial training session, simple sportswear is sufficient: long pants, a T-shirt, and sneakers. You will be able to train in sportswear for the first few months. There is a set of etiquette and rules of conduct in Aikido practice. Clothing is very important, so you will eventually need to purchase Aikido clothing, called keikogi or dogi. The instructor will tell you how to wear keikogi, tie obi (belt), and take care of your clothing. Classes are held barefoot.

Can anyone practice Aikido?

The philosophy and methodology of Aikido allow children to practice from the age of 5, and there is no age limit for adults. However, it would be wrong to think that Aikido is an easy form of physical exercise. Aikido is first and foremost Budo (martial art, warrior’s path), so practicing Aikido requires complete concentration, a lot of effort, and energy. Aikido has a very wide technical arsenal, and the pace of training can be adjusted according to your abilities. Our school pays a lot of attention to general physical training for both children and adults.
